How to choose my interior door?
When choosing interior doors, you should consider several factors in addition to aesthetics. The price will depend on whether it is solid or hollow core, the type of opening, the finish and the installation.
The main options when choosing a door are lacquered vs wood. The right choice of interior doors in a house can modify the distribution, gain a few centimetres or improve the thermal or acoustic insulation of the different rooms, as well as becoming an outstanding decorative element.
Which style to choose?
There is a wide range of available interior doors for homes. It is important to match the door design to the space where it will be installed. From white lacquered doors that imprint a cleaner, more modern style to the more traditional classic wood doors. At Dimoldura, we help you with a wide range of possibilities to find the style that best reflects your personality.
What kind of door is most suitable?
They are the most common and affordable. This is the model that is normally installed in homes as they are convenient and less expensive than sliding doors.
They are ideal for tighter spaces as they do not require as much travel as a hinged door. They are usually housed in a space or pocket in the wall.
Ideal for dark rooms or kitchens. By allowing light to pass through, they create brighter rooms with a greater sense of spaciousness. For greater safety and insulation, tempered glass is recommended. At Dimoldura, we have wide range of glazed doors to give your home a perfect look.
Lacquered, Laminate or Wood?
They are the most widespread option today. Lacquered doors are in great demand because they are easy to clean and come in a multitude of designs and colours, so they can match any style. In addition, plain colour finishes, such as white, create very neutral doors, making it easy to change furniture styles and decoration.
They require very little maintenance. Lacquered surfaces are very easy to wash. All it takes is a rag, water and some soap to make it look like new.
Laminate doors imitate the finish of wood doors including their texture, thanks to the decorative sheet and its coating which gives the door its most important functional advantages over other types of doors: resistance to scratches and knocks, waterproofness and hygiene.
The main virtue of laminate doors that imitate finishes and varnished woods is their uniformity, as opposed to natural wood, which may show sudden changes in colour or differences in grain. Laminate doors are a decidedly versatile product with many advantages
Wood doors are a classic and a safe bet. They are synonymous with elegance. Walnut, for example, transmits seriousness, oak provides luminosity and chestnut brings warmth. Depending on the desired effect, wood, in its multiple versions, will provide your home with unique traits.
For all those who wish to play it safe and want a door that will last many, many years, wood is the best choice.
Solid or hollow core?
The final price depends largely on this feature. The weight of the solid doors ranges from 30 to 35 kilos. Their main advantage is increased soundproofing and thermal insulation. In addition, they convey a greater sense of robustness when you open and close them. Doors with a honeycomb cardboard core weigh between 12 and 16 kilos and are more affordable. Of course, hollow-core doors provide less thermal and acoustic insulation.
How do I choose my door sizes?
As with so many other parts of your home, there are a number of standard sizes to consider when choosing and designing doors.
Hinged doors, for example, come in 62.5 cm, 72.5 cm and 82.5 cm, the most common height being 203 cm. Double door widths are usually 125 cm and 145 cm.
It should be noted that certain room sizes diverge from the norm. Bathrooms tend to use 72.5 cm sheets (almost never bigger) and this is important for planning the size of the doors you wish to fit in yours.
And the final details?
To get the perfect door you should not overlook small details that eventually become important with the use of the door:
Concealed hinges remain completely hidden from either side when the door is closed. It is a useful resource when seeking total integration of the door in the room by creating visual continuity along the wall where the door is located.
Magnetic latches do not protrude, thanks to two powerful natural magnets, giving the door a much sleeker look while reducing door closing noise and vibration. The absence of friction also significantly extends the life of the door.
Weatherstripping is also an important component of thermal insulation. It prevents heat from leaking in or out, as well as keeping dust and dirt out. It also helps to improve door soundproofing.
What is a doorset? What about door kits?
A door kit is the complete set of materials required for installing a door. It is very convenient as it does away with having to purchase all the parts separately, ensuring that all the components are suitable for that door and saving preparation time (mortising, mitering and measuring).
A doorset is a pre-assembled door kit with all the necessary materials to install our door on the door lining.
The difference between the doorset and the door kit lies in the assembly. While the various components are not assembled in the door kit, in the doorset they are. The door leaves are already mounted on the door casing, which makes for an ever quicker and safer installation. This is the easiest way to buy a door as you will only need one installer.
How to keep the doors like they are new?
In addition to their passage function, doors play a major role in home decoration. For this reason, they should be carefully considered. The passing of time slowly deteriorates them, affecting their aspect. When a door gets the necessary care, it lasts longer and even enhances its natural beauty. To achieve this, we provide some tips for preventive care as well as repair in case they have been damaged.
Cleaning is the paramount element in door care. To keep them like the first day, you should use the right products based on the material the door is made of:
No abrasive cleaners should be used. A paper towel moistened with warm water and neutral soap is sufficient to remove the dirt. Dry thoroughly with a cotton cloth or a very soft cloth so as not to scratch the surface.
Never use detergent, turpentine or solvents for this type of material. A cloth or sponge soaked in warm water is sufficient. It is not advisable to let it dry by itself. It is best to dry with a clean cloth respecting the direction of the wood grain.
Solid wood doors
Clean as you would veneer doors. Since the wood depth is much greater in solid wood doors, you can also nourish the wood applying pure wax. Spread a thin, even layer over the entire surface and polish with a soft, clean cloth before it dries.
Doors should be cleaned frequently to make them look better, particularly front doors. You can use a microfibre cloth or duster to remove dust without fear of scratching the door. Avoid utensils or rags that could be excessively abrasive with the wood. Use a traditional glass cleaner for glazed doors.
What about the exterior doors?
Dimoldura exterior doors combine safety, design and reliability.
In this case, we will focus on the composition of the exterior door rather than on the opening system as exterior doors are generally hinged doors.
Types of exterior doors according to their composition
They offer the greatest resistance to impact. Both the frame and the interior plates are made of steel. The door is usually finished with wood sheets for aesthetic reasons.
They are wood and/or MDF frames with steel plates inside. There are major differences in resistance compared to armoured doors, which are the most secure.
